Ulcerative Colitis is a chronic large bowel infection (colon). The colon is the portion of the digestive system where the residual waste material is deposited and water is removed from undigested material. The end of the colon nearest to the anus is the rectum. Ulcers and inflammation of the inner lining of the intestine contribute to signs of stomach pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding in people with ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is closely linked with another gastrointestinal inflammatory disorder, Crohn's disease. Together, inflammatory bowel disease is commonly referred to as (IBD). Chronic diseases include ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Crohn's disease, including all layers of the bowel wall, can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract. The GI tract could not be limited to (affecting the liver, skin, eyes, and joints).
