Anal Papilitis

Localized inflammation of one of the anal glands is cryptitis. This rare condition is known endoscopically at the level of the dentate line as a pearl of pus beading out from the crypt. Treatment is gland obliteration, which inevitably requires an internal sphincterotomy. With untreated and sustained infection, fistulas and abscesses can grow.
