Anal Abscess, A sore condition in which a collection of pus forms around the anus is an anal abscess. Infection from small anal glands is the product of most anal abscesses. Perianal abscess is the most prevalent form of an abscess. This often appears above the anus as a painful boil-like swelling. In color, it can be red and warm to the touch. It is less frequent and can be less visible to anal abscesses found in deeper tissue. For all sorts of anal abscesses, surgical incision and drainage is the most effective procedure and is typically effective. A condition called a fistula will occur in approximately 50 percent of patients with an anal abscess. A fistula is a narrow tunnel between the abscess site and the skin that makes an irregular connection.
